পথ দুর্ঘটনায় সাইকেল আরোহীর মৃত্যুকে কেন্দ্র করে বর্ধমান স্টেশন সংলগ্ন বাজেপ্রতাপপুরে উত্তেজনা। মৃতদেহ তুলতে পুলিশকে বাধা। পুলিশের সঙ্গে ধস্তাধস্তি উত্তেজিত জনতার। গতকাল রাত ১০টা নাগাদ বর্ধমান রেল ব্রিজে ওঠার সময় ডাম্পারের ধাক্কায় মৃত্যু হয় সাইকেল আরোহী বিরজু শর্মার। এরপরই এলাকায় আলো লাগানোর দাবিতে মৃতদেহ আটকে পথ অবরোধ করেন স্থানীয়রা।অবরোধ তুলতে গেলে পুলিশের সঙ্গে তাদের ধস্তাধস্তি হয়। পরে বিক্ষোভকারীদের হঠিয়ে দেয় পুলিশ।

তিন মত্ত বাইক আরোহীকে আটক করায়, টালিগঞ্জ থানায় তাণ্ডব। কনস্টেবলকে মারধর। থানা লক্ষ্য করে ছোড়া হল ইট। উল্টে পুলিশের বিরুদ্ধেই মারধরের অভিযোগে থানায় লিখিত অভিযোগ দায়ের। তাণ্ডবের ঘটনার ১১ ঘণ্টা পর স্বতঃপ্রণোদিত মামলা রুজু পুলিশেরও। গ্রেফতার ৩। পুলিশ সূত্রে খবর, গতকাল রাতে মেনকা সিনেমা হলের সামনে চেতলার বাসিন্দা চার যুবক প্রকাশ্যে মদ্যপান করছিলেন। পরিস্থিতি বেলাগাম হয়ে ওঠায়, তিনজনকে মত্ত অবস্থায় আটক করে পুলিশ। একজন পালিয়ে যায়। খবর পেয়ে রাতে টালিগঞ্জ থানায় চড়াও হন আটক যুবকদের আত্মীয়, প্রতিবেশীরা। থানায় ঢুকে তাঁরা তাণ্ডব চালান। ডিউটি অফিসারের টেবিল চাপড়ে পুলিশকে গালিগালাজ করতে শুরু করেন তাঁরা। ঘটনাস্থলে উপস্থিত এক কনস্টেবলকে মারধরও করা হয়। সহকর্মীদের সাহায্যে কোনওরকমে রক্ষা পান টালিগঞ্জ থানার ওই কনস্টেবল।
